Frequently Asked Questions
About the Little Economists® Books
What age group are the Little Economists books designed for?
The Little Economists books are designed primarily for children ages 5–8. Younger children can enjoy the stories with help from a parent or teacher, while older children who are new to financial literacy can also benefit from the simple explanations and relatable examples.
What will my child learn from the books?
The series introduces children to important money and economics concepts, including:
- What money is and how people earn it
- Needs, wants, and spending wisely
- Credit cards and borrowing
- Supply and demand
- Inflation
- Stocks, shares, and dividends
- Interest and compound interest
- Entrepreneurship and making money
- Saving and setting financial goals
Each concept is introduced through a cheerful story featuring recurring animal characters, simple language, and colorful illustrations.
Are the books stories or textbooks?
They are storybooks that teach! Each book follows familiar Little Economists characters as they solve a problem, make choices, or learn something new about money. The financial lessons are built naturally into the stories, so children can learn without feeling as though they are reading a textbook.
Do the books need to be read in order?
No. Each book focuses on a different topic and can be read independently. Your child can begin with whichever subject interests them most.
Reading the books in order can be helpful, however, because some characters and ideas reappear throughout the series.
Can children read the books independently?
Many early elementary school children can read the books independently, but the reading experience is even more valuable when a parent, caregiver, or teacher reads along and discusses the questions together.
Younger children may need help with some financial vocabulary, while older children may be able to read and understand the stories on their own.
Are these books only for children who already receive an allowance?
Not at all. Children do not need to receive an allowance or have their own money to benefit from the books. The stories help children understand the everyday financial choices they see adults making, such as working, shopping, saving, borrowing, and using credit cards.
Are the books appropriate for homeschool and classroom use?
Yes. Little Economists books are used by parents, homeschool families, teachers, and educational organizations to introduce financial literacy and economics in an age-appropriate way.
The books can support lessons about money, decision-making, social studies, entrepreneurship, and everyday math.
Who created the Little Economists series?
The Little Economists series is written and illustrated by Kelly Lee and published by Econ For Kids LLC. The series was created to make financial education simple, engaging, and approachable for young children.
Choosing a Set
Which Little Economists set should I purchase?
The Starter Set is a good introduction to the series and includes Books 1–5.
The Complete Set is the best choice for families who want the broadest financial education experience. It includes Books 1–8 along with the Smart Money Conversation Cards.
Please review each product description before ordering to see exactly what is included in the set.
I already own Books 1–5. How can I continue the series?
If you already own the Little Economists Box Set containing Books 1–5, you can purchase the remaining titles separately through our official Amazon store, subject to availability.
What are the Smart Money Conversation Cards?
The Smart Money Conversation Cards contain 101 child-friendly prompts designed to start meaningful conversations about money, choices, saving, spending, businesses, and everyday life.
There are no perfect answers. The goal is to help children think, explain their ideas, and become more comfortable talking about money.
Do you sell worksheets or printable activities?
Yes. We offer printable financial literacy worksheets that reinforce many of the concepts introduced in the books.
The worksheets are a digital product, so no physical workbook will be mailed unless the product description specifically states otherwise. Please review the product page carefully before purchasing.
